Divisions within Christianity:
Followers of many, perhaps most, faith traditions believe that theirs is the only "true" religion -- the only completely valid faith. They have one of three main beliefs about other religions:
| Exclusivism: other faiths are in grave error and often viewed as opponents. |
| Inclusivism: other faiths have some truth in them, but are only partly developed. |
| Pluralism: all faiths are legitimate, valid, and true -- when viewed from within their particular culture. |

There are major differences between the beliefs of:
| Very conservative Protestants, who mainly take an exclusive position, and |
| The Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches which take an inclusive position, and |
| Mainline Christians who take a variety of positions, and |
| Very liberal Christians, who mainly take a pluralist position. |
This is largely driven by their different approaches to the nature and content of the Bible. and their emphasis on church traditon. Many theologians view Christianity as being composed of at least two separate religions -- one conservative and one liberal -- who share the Bible and the name "Christianity," but differ widely on other matters.
