-Work Weekend, June 30-July 1: Ian, Anne, Griffin, Tristan, Julien,
Meryl, Kevin, Wil, Chris, Jan and Jerry rendezvoused in Royalton to
accomplish some critical work: Julien, Ian and Jerry got up revision
1 of the retractable deck tarp! Kevin, Julien and Chris disposed of
scrap wood from around the central area. Wil mowed the fields.
Meryl & Kevin made sure the latrines were in good shape. Ian
whacked weeds. Anne, Meryl & Kevin cleaned, organized and
inventoried in the barn. Kevin & Meryl tested, filled and cleaned
all the lanterns and tiki torches. Everyone ate blueberry pancakes.

I finally got my Christmas cards out, so now I can start working on MSF!
Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anyone in my scattershot of

A Paintball Player Comes of Age at Midsummerfest

ROYALTON, VT - You poke your head out of your tent early Saturday morning to
see a group of campers, clad in khakis, camouflage shirts and hiking boots,
gathered near the pond.
Some are applying green and brown face paint as others are cleaning handguns
and doling out gumball-sized ammunition.
"Okay, remember the rules," one of them says. "You have ten minutes
to hide your flags. When we blow the horn three times the game starts. No shooting
within ten feet of a person and once you're shot, return to camp. Don't forget
to always wear your goggles. Okay, let's go."
These people look more like the National Guard on maneuvers than the friendly
bunch of people you met Friday night when you arrived at Midsummerfest. Divided
into teams they trudge off into the forest.
For the next hour you hear yelps and laughter coming from the woods and then
one of the campers, blue paint splattered on his jeans, emerges from the forest.

WORK WEEKEND

Ian, Anne, Griffin, Tristan, Morton, Sarah, Haggis, Gavin, Karen, Taylor &
Kiera spent a sunny and hot weekend in the Hundred Aker Wood taking down tall
grass, repairing mowers, taking inventory of the cooking gear, and laying in
wood along with some refreshing dips in the pond.
The next Work Weekend will be July 17-18 (unless another weekend works better
for a significant number of people). So far it is Ian, Julien, Anne L. and Sage.

NEW MEALS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Traditional MSF meals have been optimized for price, transportability, availability,
storability (with minimal refrigeration) and general appeal. This has resulted
in food that is acceptable to most, but not very exciting. Some folks out there
expressed interest in jazzing up the MSF menu. If you're one of those people,
please consider the following points before committing.
1) You will be given the money normally budgeted for that meal as your budget.
You are, of course, free to supplement with your own money but you aren't allowed
to ask other Festers for money. If they volunteer it, that's fine.
2) You must shop for the food, transport it to MSF, and store it at MSF. You
will get a standard ice allotment but if you need more, you'll have to arrange
with the ice run people to pick it up for you.s
3) If the preparation of the meal requires implements not available at MSF,
you will have to bring them yourself.
4) You should plan to make a test run of the meal at a Work Weekend before the
MSF at which you plan to serve the meal. MSF will pay for the food for the test
run.
5) Please consider the variety of tastes at MSF and if you're offering something
esoteric plan to provide an alternative dish as well.
6) If you're still interested, please contact Ian to make plans.
