The Chocolate River

A skit by Elisabeth Guenette with Ronni Marshak

Elisabeth and Ronni on stage, and Elisabeth offers Ronni some chocolate rocks.

E: Hi Ronni. Want to eat some Chocolate River Rocks?

R: Do I look stupid? There is no such thing as a Chocolate River!

E: Don't have rocks in your head! Of course there is!

R: I never heard of the Chocolate River!

E: Well let me tell you the story of the Chocolate River. [Elisabeth then tells the story–you make it up, but don't make it too long. Maybe something like, "one day, hundreds of years ago, a little girl and her littler brother went walking in the meadow, and they heard a noise underneath. It sounded like water bubbling. And the little girl saw a rock she had never seen before. In fact, it was almost perfectly round, and a shiny dark brown. She moved it aside, and a geyser of water came rushing up. She and her brother ran for home. And the next day, when they came back, there was no more meadow, but a big running river, all chocolatey brown in color and filling the air with a delightful and fresh aroma. Her little brother ran down to drink from the river, and turned back smiling, saying, it tastes just like chocolate. So she named it the Chocolate River, and everyday, she and all her friends and family would have a nice big glass of chocolate with breakfast." — you can tell any story you'd like, but we don't want it to be too long, okay.]

R: Wow! That sounds really neat! I'd like a big glass of chocolate water right now. Where is the Chocolate River?

E: I'm not sure, but I bet my friend Pooh knows. He knows everything about things that are good to eat. (brings out the stuffed Pooh)

E: (talking to Pooh) Hi Pooh, we're looking for the Chocolate River. Do you know where it is? (Listens to Pooh). Pooh says to look at the map.

R: (pulls out a map of 100 Aker Wood) [Elisabeth, could you and your mom and dad do a big colorful map of the wood? If not, could you bring crayons and paper to MSF and you and I will do it together on Saturday before the Travesty]. Is this the map?

E: Yup, that's the map. Let's start looking.

(they walk across the stage both ways)

R: (pointing) Oh, oh, I think I see it! Is that the Chocolate River?

E: No silly, that's the Upper Pond.

(they walk across the stage again)

R: (pointing) Oh, oh, I think I see it! Is that the Chocolate River?

E: No silly, that's the solar shower.

R: (pointing) Oh, oh, I think I see it! Is that the Chocolate River?

E: (very annoyed) No, Ronni. (faces audience) That's the Latrine!!!

R: (mopey) I don't think we'll every find the Chocolate River!

E: you have to search for clues. Let's look more closely at the map. (they both look at map) See, the Chocolate River is near a cabin, and a trampoline, and a lot of people doing silly songs, dances, and skits!

(they both look straight out and point)

E & R together: The Chocolate River is the Lower Pond!!!!!

E: And I brought a pail of water from the pond this morning. Let's taste [I'll bring some chocolate milk to put in a pail]. Yum. This is delicious!

(E: Turns to the audience and says) So that's the story of the Chocolate River. And here's some Chocolate water for everyone [I'll be pouring the milk into paper cups and passing them out.]

the end.
