MSF Adventure 2009: Cardinal Points

Goal:

Using a GPS Unit, locate GeoCaches around the Hundred Aker Wood to collect cards worth the highest point total.

Starting the Game:

Each player receives an Instruction Sheet (this sheet), a Trail Map, and some number of Game Cards.

Any players who have a GPS Card receive a GPS Unit and a set of Order Cards.

Players may begin trading cards and forming Expotitions.

To start an Expotition, a group must be formed which includes a Player that has a GPS Card and a Player that has a Location Card. (The Location Card holder may negotiate a trade in order to reveal the Location coordinates if he so chooses. However, Location coordinates may only be used if the card is in the Player’s possession no writing down coordinates.)

•All cards may be traded among players at any time.

•All cards must be kept together

•All deals must be executed immediately and honestly no lies, hidden cards, future considerations, etc.

Types of Cards:

GPS Cards - gives the player control of a GPS unit
There is one GPS Card for each GPS Unit in the game. The card includes instructions for entering a GeoCache Location

Order Cards - determine picking order at GeoCaches
Each GPS Unit comes with a set of Order Cards. These are distributed at random to all players starting on an Expotition.

Location Cards - specifies the location of a GeoCache, including a unique name
There is at least one of these cards for each GeoCache location

Special Cards - special cards which give the player an advantage. Special cards may only be used once and are then out of play (the card should be destroyed).

Meld (Scoring) Cards - may be combined in various ways to score points for the player

Picture Cards - may be collected to form complete pictures to score points for the player

Starting an Expotition

Once a player has taken control of a GPS Unit and has entered the coordinates of a GeoCache Location, he announces the Location and any players may choose to join his Expotition. Each player may go to each Cache Location only once during the game.

Once the number of players (N) in the Expotition is determined, the Order Cards from 1 to N are shuffled and given to the Players at random. Any players joining the Expotition once it has started get the next highest Order Card. Any players leaving the Expotition before the Cache is located should give their Order Cards to the GPS Holder.

Expotition Members must stay within sight of each other. Thus players may only run if the entire Expotition decides to run.

Locating a GeoCache

When the GeoCache Coordinates have been reached, the holder of the GPS Unit must announce such. All players may then search for the actual GeoCache Container.

Once the Container has been located, the GeoCache Selections are made in the following order: the GeoCache Locator, the GPS Unit Holder, the Location Card holder, all remaining players in Order Card order.

Each player has up to 1 minute to exchange up to 3 cards with the Cache. Once they have made their Exchange, they may leave the Expotition.

The GPS Locator receives the GPS unit and card.

Once every player has made their Exchange with the GeoCache, the cache is hidden again in its original location.

Starting the Next Expotition

The GPS Card (and GPS Unit and Order Cards) pass to the GeoCache Locator.

If no Location Card is available, all players must return to the Deck.

Winning the Game:

When the time has expired, the player with the most points wins the game. Once time expires, no more deals, exchanges, changes to sets, etc.
